Lonza
Senior Cell & Molecular Biologist
Today, Lonza is a global leader in life sciences operating across five continents. While we work in science, there’s no magic formula to how we do it. Our greatest scientific solution is talented people working together, devising ideas that help businesses to help people. In exchange, we let our people own their careers. Their ideas, big and small, genuinely improve the world. And that’s the kind of work we want to be part of.
We are seeking a Senior Cell & Molecular Biologist to join our growing R&D team focused on accelerating high-impact biomanufacturing innovations. This role will be central to our efforts in developing next-generation tools and workflows for cell line development, characterization and bioprocessing.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a scientific subject matter expert (SME) on molecular biology and cell line-focused projects.
- Design and execute workflows including vector design and construction, cell cloning, and sequencing strategies, including single-cell sequencing methods.
- Analyze data rigorously, applying appropriate statistical and data analysis approaches to generate actionable insights.
- Communicate complex technical results with clarity—both in high-level summaries and detailed presentations—to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborate closely with junior scientists, serving as a mentor and technical sounding board.
- Set a high bar for in-lab practices: cleanliness, organization, reproducibility, and continuous improvement.
- Proactively identify and pursue new opportunities—turning ambiguous ideas into concrete, testable hypotheses and delivering valuable results.
- Operate effectively in both structured team environments and with a high degree of autonomy.
- Provide leadership in project execution and team culture, with potential for expanded leadership responsibility over time.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Bioengineering or related field, with 5+ years of hands-on experience in relevant lab settings.
- Strong expertise in:
- Molecular cloning and vector construction techniques
- Mammalian cell line construction and high-throughput screening
- Sequencing workflows, including bulk and single-cell sequencing
- Quantitative analysis of molecular biology data
- Proven track record of self-starting and independently driving work forward in fast-paced environments.
- Demonstrated ability to translate technical complexity into clear, compelling narratives.
- Startup or innovation-focused experience strongly preferred.
- Experience mentoring or leading scientists is a plus.
Why Join Us?
