Lonza acquired Synaffix, a biotechnology company focused on commercializing its clinical-stage technology platform for the development of more effective and better tolerated antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs.)
In this role you will lead a team of chemists within the Bioconjugation team at Synaffix with the objective to provide linkers and payloads for customer projects and where applicable internal research purposes. General focus is on design and synthesis of cytotoxic linker-payloads for application in ADCs, however other modalities are also being pursued, including but not limited to autoimmune and targeted gene therapy. Key tasks include; planning, execution and tracking of the different projects, communicate progress with internal and external stack holders. In addition you will built a bridges with the preclinical development and small molecules teams within Lonza Visp (CH) network.
What you’ll do:
Manage, support and educate (Sr.) Research Associates within the Bioconjugation chemistry team, review performance, set annual objectives, agree personal development plans and provide timely constructive feedback.
Design and execute complex multi-step synthesis routes and incorporate state-of-the-art procedures
Active involvement in securing new customer projects whether related to GlycoConnect technology or within the broader Lonza organization
Responsible for planning, coordination and tracking of customer focused projects and apply corrective actions where required
Communicate with internal and external stack holders timelines, costs and progress of projects
Ensure delivery of robust synthetic processes and good quality materials for customer projects within the agreed timelines and costs
Delivery of project-related documentation including reports, protocols certificates of testing and where applicable tech transfer documents.
Take assigned responsibilities in designated tasks & projects
Adhere to company policies and quality & safety standards
Perform other duties as assigned.
What we’re looking for:
PhD or Msc Bioorganic chemistry / Bioconjugation chemistry
Expert knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry and hands-on experience working with highly potent active pharmaceutical ingredients
Ability to analyze and characterize small molecules with laboratory techniques and equipment.
Knowledge and hands-on experience with various automated purification techniques, and analytical techniques such as NMR, TLC, RP-HPLC, UPLC-MS
Strong commitment to project deliverables and customer focused
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Strong analytical skills (qualitative & quantitative)
Ability to work autonomously
Strong team player mentality and ability to motivate people
Creative and problem solving personality
Ability to lead, motivate and support a team
