Lonza AG is looking for an upbeat and skilled (Senior) Principal Scientist to join our Research & Development team in Switzerland. As a (Senior) Principal Scientist, you will have a meaningful role in crafting and conducting experiments, analyzing data, and clearly communicating results to both internal and external collaborators. Strategic Innovation: Aid in formulating strategies to develop new capabilities targeted at meeting unfulfilled technical requirements. Recognize and suggest steps regarding both internal and external technical possibilities to propel organizational objectives.
Innovative Intellectual Property Leadership: Lead initiatives to create and establish intellectual property in key areas of expertise. Collaborate with internal teams to outline project scope and direction.
Data Analysis and Presentation: Collect, summarize, and analyze complex and interdependent data sets. Draw conclusions based on this data and prepare presentations to disseminate guidelines across the function. Review complex scientific reports to ensure they reflect the high-quality image of Lonza.
Project Completion: Successfully complete priority projects of high importance to the company. Leverage deep and broad scientific expertise to solve multifaceted problems.
Budget Management: Take responsibility for budget adherence and outcomes for championed and assigned projects.
Contribute to the planning, execution, and documentation of academic research projects in collaboration with internal teams and external institutions.
Communication of Scientific Advancements: Communicate scientific advancements in portfolio projects to the R&D leadership team and business executives on cross-functional project Steering Committees. Present scientific advancements outside the organization at conferences and through publications.
Team Leadership: Operate primarily as an individual contributor but will regularly lead project teams, formally or informally, with substantial autonomy and transparency.
Ph.D. with 5-10 years’ relevant experience in early and/or late-phase process development
Preferred area of study: Synthetic Organic Chemistry
Fluency in English
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to excel in a multidisciplinary environment
Entrepreneurial approach with the ability to define and assert the business value of chemical innovations
Willingness to travel globally (5-10%)
