Product Safety – Specialist Raw Substances
Location: Hyderabad, India
Job Summary
As a Product Safety Specialist for Raw Substances, you will evaluate health and environmental hazard data of raw materials supplied to Lonza sites, ensuring compliance with local and international regulations. You will manage supplier Safety Data Sheets (SDS) within SAP EHS systems, monitor regulatory changes, and provide hazard communication to support safe operations. This role is critical in enabling Lonza’s compliance with evolving chemical regulations while supporting business teams in understanding regulatory impacts on marketability and product safety.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with GHS classification for purchased products and materials. Review supplier SDS to confirm alignment with regional chemical regulations (e.g., REACH/CLP in Switzerland).
SDS Management: Maintain and update supplier SDS in SAP EHS and submodules in S/4HANA, monitoring regulatory changes and ensuring data accuracy.
Hazard Assessment: Extract and document intrinsic physical, health, and environmental hazards of chemical substances by entering relevant data into SAP EHS systems.
Regulatory Monitoring: Support updates to SAP tools and data based on regulatory changes, ensuring timely hazard communication.
System Oversight: Monitor SAP system activities for raw material status changes (e.g., purchased → shipped or sold).
Business Support: Respond to business and customer inquiries regarding regulatory standing of materials.
Subject Matter Expertise: Act as SME for product safety in cross-functional projects, providing guidance and expertise.
Continuous Improvement: Contribute to process optimization and compliance initiatives across product safety functions.
Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as required to support the product safety team.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or Pharmaceutical Science.
Preferred: Natural Science degree with specialization in Toxicology.
1–4 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical or chemical industry.
Experience with SAP systems and regulatory compliance processes.
Certifications & Language
Knowledge of GHS regulation (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals).
Preferred: Familiarity with EC No 1272/2008 (CLP) and EC No 1907/2006 (REACH) regulations.
Business fluency in English and German.
Skills & Attributes
Strong knowledge of SAP, Excel, and regulatory authority-mandated software.
Project planning and organizational skills.
Ability to work hands-on and learn quickly.
Team-oriented mindset with expertise in one or more areas: Environmental, Biological, Chemical, Regulatory, IT, or analytical tools.
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
