Control Systems Engineering Manager

Job Summary:
This position oversees a team of controls engineers who support Lonza Biologics and Cell Therapy operations at the Portsmouth site. The team provides ongoing technical assistance for manufacturing and process automation systems. They serve as a technical resource for operations, ensuring that instrumentation and automation systems are designed and function properly to meet production requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage a team of controls engineers and contractors (as needed) to support ongoing operations, continuous improvements and projects.
Planning and execution of plant projects involving complex equipment changes and significant process improvements. May be involved in capital projects or initiation of CARs.
Very high level of technical competence with 1 or more automation systems.
Oversight of tech transfers, which are managed by delegates (controls leads).
Provides mentorship and training to the group.
Provide SME support to Manufacturing and other departments for the design and operation of process automation equipment.
Support resolution of equipment breakdowns and quality issues in the suites.
Conduct troubleshooting and technical/root cause analyses on manufacturing equipment and processes automation systems including PI data analyses, review/troubleshooting code, etc. both during normal business hours and as part of an on-call rotation.
Performs all work safely and meets the requisite training requirements.
Ensures that the team actively participates in IPT/JPT in addition to other meetings as the Controls representative.
Participates in audits and inspections as sole Controls SME.
Owns and executes completion of CAPA actions.
Initiates change controls and participates in all aspects of the change controls process.
Manages standard work structure for team.
Review SOPs, Functional Specifications, and work instructions.
Remain up to date on all assigned training activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Key Requirements:
BS in Engineering Discipline (or similar with pertinent experience)
10+ Years Experience in Pharma/Biotech (or equivalent industrial automation). Candidates with less experience may be considered with an outstanding track record.
DeltaV experience is required.
Management experience is preferred.
Very high level of technical competence with 1 or more automation system.
Tech Transfer is preferred.
