Senior Product Manager - QC Microbiology Future Technologies

Location: This position is based in our Walkersville, MD office. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM EST.

What will you do:

As a Product Manager, you will lead the strategy, lifecycle management, and commercial success of Lonza's Rapid Microbiology and Digital QC Solutions portfolio, including Redberry, WinKQCL, and future acquired technologies. You will act as the bridge between customers, commercial teams, software development, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions that accelerate microbiological quality control across the life sciences industry.

  • Own the end-to-end product lifecycle for assigned software, digital, and rapid microbiology solutions, from concept and development through launch, commercialization, maintenance, and end-of-life.

  • Develop and execute multi-year product roadmaps aligned with customer needs, market trends, regulatory requirements, and Lonza's Bioscience strategy.

  • Define product value propositions, positioning, pricing strategies, and business cases to support portfolio growth and investment decisions.

  • Translate customer and business requirements into product specifications, user stories, and prioritized development plans for software and technology teams.

  • Partner closely with R&D, Software Development, QA/RA, Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, Sales, SMEs, and Service teams to ensure successful product development and execution.

  • Serve as the voice of the customer by gathering and translating market feedback, customer insights, support cases, and industry trends into product improvements and innovation opportunities.

  • Lead product backlog prioritization, release planning, and cross-functional decision-making within Agile and hybrid development environments.

  • Support commercial teams through product training, technical positioning, customer-facing materials, and strategic customer engagements.

  • Monitor product portfolio performance, including revenue, margin, adoption, and customer satisfaction metrics, and implement adjustments to drive business growth.

  • Work closely with Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs to support compliance, validation strategies, change management activities, and customer requirements for regulated software and rapid microbiology solutions.

  • Support customer validation, technical discussions, and regulatory acceptance strategies related to rapid microbiological methods and digital quality control solutions.

  • Identify and evaluate future acquisition opportunities and support the integration of newly acquired technologies into the Lonza product portfolio.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline; advanced degree preferred.

  • Significant experience in product management, product marketing, software product management, or portfolio management within life sciences, biotechnology, diagnostics, laboratory instrumentation, or regulated software environments.

  • Strong understanding of microbiological quality control, rapid microbiological methods (RMM), laboratory informatics, or digital quality management solutions.

  • Demonstrated experience managing complex product portfolios and driving products through all stages of the product lifecycle.

  • Experience working with software development teams in Agile or hybrid development environments, including backlog prioritization, requirements definition, and release planning.

  • Strong commercial acumen with experience developing business cases, pricing strategies, market analyses, and growth plans.

  • Knowledge of regulated environments and applicable industry requirements, including GMP, GLP, GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, EU Annex 11, data integrity principles, and software validation practices.

  • Proven ability to influence and collaborate across cross-functional teams, including R&D, Engineering, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Operations, Marketing, and Sales.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage customers, key opinion leaders, senior leaders, and external partners.

  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance customer needs, business objectives, and technical constraints.

  • Experience supporting technology acquisitions, portfolio integrations, or business transformation initiatives is highly desirable.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required to support customers, partners, and business objectives.
