Senior Logistics Specialist

We are currently seeking a Senior Logistics Specialist for our Walkersville, MD site. This role is pivotal in maintaining the seamless function of Logistics and distribution operations and requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and process management l. We are specifically looking for candidates with experience in international trade, particularly in import/export activities. This position is based on site at our Walkersville, MD facility and requires a five-day onsite presence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational & Shipping Oversight: Provide daily logistics support across shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations, ensuring all activities are performed safely, accurately, and in full compliance with cGMP and GDP standards. 
- Process Improvement & Optimization: Drive continuous improvement through process enhancement, Value Stream Mapping, and collaboration with Global IT and SAP SMEs to support efficiency, tech transfer, and project implementation. 
- Cost & Performance Management: Partner with carriers, brokers, and suppliers to manage freight costs, monitor budget spending, and identify cost-saving and sustainability opportunities. Maintain and report key performance indicators for logistics operations. 
- Supplier & Partner Coordination: Participate in vendor selection, review, and management of logistics service providers to mitigate risks and optimize supply chain performance. 
- Compliance & Documentation: Ensure import/export accuracy by auditing documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, HTS codes, and Incoterms) and updating SOPs. Maintain compliance with customs and trade regulations. 
- Training & SOP Management: Develop, update, and train staff on SOPs related to logistics, import/export processes, and warehouse operations, ensuring full training adherence and procedural consistency. 
- Problem Solving & Audits: Lead root cause analyses, TrackWise issue management, and audit support activities. Collaborate cross-functionally to implement corrective and preventive actions. 
- Hands-On Operational Support: Maintain a foundational understanding of warehouse functions (picking, pulling, put-away) and operate equipment such as forklifts when required, supporting overall workflow and EHS standards. 
Key Requirements:
- Demonstrated ability in supply chain, logistics, or a similar field, within either an academic or industry environment. 
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work optimally across supply chain and functional teams to support planning, distribution, and manufacturing strategies. 
- Proven track record to manage tasks and projects within established timelines. 
- Proficient in SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA. 
- Effective communicator with a proactive, solution-oriented mentality. 
- Teammate with a positive, professional demeanor and a commitment to high performance. 
- Demonstrated reliability with an excellent work history, including punctuality and attendance. 
- Meticulous attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality. 
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), or equivalent software tools. 
- Strong understanding of import/export operations and regulatory compliance requirements.

As required by law in this state, the quoted salary range for this on-site position is $74,000.00 – $118,000.00. We use broad salary ranges that reflect the competitive market for similar jobs, provide sufficient opportunity for growth as you gain experience and expand responsibilities; while also allowing for differentiation on performance based on the breadth of our ranges, most new hires will start at the company between the lower and the middle part of the applicable range. We tailor our offers within the range based on job-related factors, including organizational needs, internal equity, market data, geographic area and the selected candidate’s experience, education, industry knowledge, location, technical and/or communication skills and other factors that may prove relevant during the selection process. This range is only inclusive of base salary, and base pay is just one component of Lonza’s total compensation package for employees.
