MES Engineer Level 1

Join our team as an MES Engineer Level 1 in Portsmouth, NH, supporting the execution, testing, and troubleshooting of key Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). This entry-level position offers hands-on experience developing process automation expertise and delivering critical solutions that support the high-quality manufacturing of life-saving medicines.

This is a fully site‑based role. Working together in person supports close, real‑time collaboration and the technical precision needed to manufacture medicines to the highest quality and safety standards.

What you will do:

  • Support manufacturing equipment and process automation systems, conducting root-cause analyses and troubleshooting (including PI data analysis and code reviews).

  • Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) support to Manufacturing and cross-functional teams to ensure the safe and optimal operation of process automation systems in cGMP suites.

  • Assist with the tech transfer of new processes into the facility and evaluate change request lot assessments to support timely lot release.

  • Execute test scripts (design, simulation, wet testing) and manage change requests under the guidance of automation leads and supervisors.

  • Participate as the MES representative in deviation investigations, Root Cause Analyses (RCAs), and complete assigned CAPA action items.

  • Review and revise automation- and manufacturing-related SOPs, Functional Specifications, and work instructions to prevent errors and drive continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate closely with MES Leads, Process Scientists, and Manufacturing Supervision to deliver high-quality, compliant automation support.


What we are looking for:

  • Entry-level background (0–4 years) in the Pharma/Biotech industry or related cGMP manufacturing environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics).

  • Strong analytical problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to evaluate engineering problems, determine cause-and-effect relationships, and propose technical solutions.

  • Foundational understanding of manufacturing equipment automation, process control systems, or data analysis tools (e.g., PI software).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with multi-disciplinary site teams.

  • Highly adaptable mindset with a continuous learning orientation, willingness to embrace new challenges, and a strong commitment to workplace safety and cGMP compliance.
