Today, Lonza is a global leader in life sciences operating across three continents. While we work in science, there’s no magic formula to how we do it. Our greatest scientific solution is talented people working together, devising ideas that help businesses to help people. In exchange, we let our people own their careers. Their ideas, big and small, genuinely improve the world. And that’s the kind of work we want to be part of.

Are you passionate about driving operational improvements and achieving excellence? Join our team in Visp as an Operational Excellence Professional, where you will play a pivotal role in optimizing processes, enhancing quality, and fostering continuous improvement in Small/Mid Scale Operations and Development Services.

Your Role

In this dynamic position, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure their successful implementation. As a key contributor to the divisional program “Planning for Quality, Control, and Reliability” (PfQCR), you will drive initiatives that focus on failure reduction, proactive risk mitigation, sustainable knowledge management, and ongoing process optimization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process Analysis and Optimization:
    • Analyze business processes along the value stream, from customer contracting and process development to manufacturing execution and batch release
    • Identify improvement opportunities and design ideal processes to optimize the product lifecycle
  • Control Plans and Risk Management:
    • Develop and implement systems to capture and document customer requirements, translating them into scientifically derived parameters
    • Create and maintain generic control plans to identify and mitigate risks throughout the product lifecycle
  • Cross-Functional Coordination:
    • Define key process gates to validate customer requirements and synchronize internal stakeholders
    • Collaborate with teams across Visp, Nansha, Bend, and Tampa to ensure seamless system implementation
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Implement structured processes to identify problems, monitor resolution progress, and track improvements through visual quality clinics
    • Proactively address identified gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities
  • Performance Measurement and Reporting:
    • Measure the effectiveness of actions, implement corrective measures as needed, and provide regular updates to senior management

What You Bring

  • Education and Certifications:
    • Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Business Engineering, or a related field (PhD or MSc preferred)
    • Lean or Six Sigma Green Belt certification is an advantage
  • Skills and Experience:
    • Fluency in German and English (business level)
    • Proven success in managing cross-functional projects and delivering results under pressure
    • Strong analytical skills and a structured approach to leveraging data for decision-making
    • Knowledge of Operational Excellence tools such as PDCA, value stream mapping, generic control plans, and FMEA
    • Familiarity with cGMP regulations and pharmaceutical standards is preferred
    • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills to thrive in a matrix organization
  • Personal Qualities:
    • A well-organized and independent professional who excels under minimal supervision
    • A change agent with the ability to drive a culture of continuous improvement
