Lead Scientist - Mass Spectrometry

Location: On-site, Cambridge, MA.

The role involves using mass spectrometry techniques to analyze recombinant proteins and peptides. Good knowledge of protein chemistry and other protein characterization tools is required. The role will involve working on multiple customer projects. As part of your role, good record keeping, understanding of regulatory requirements and skilled presentation of data will be essential.

What you will do:

  • Perform mass spectrometry assays to analyze recombinant proteins and peptides.

  • Perform a range of analytical assays for protein characterization.

  • Liaise with R&D and operational groups to ensure SOPs and equipment are aligned

  • Prepare high quality reports and data summaries.

  • Performing equipment, lab and area inspections to maintain high levels of quality and safety. Contribute to and maintain Operational Excellence initiatives.

  • Effectively communicate with external customers and internal stakeholders across departments and sites.

  • Provide mentoring and training to junior members of the team.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Biological Sciences/ Biotechnology and/or relevant experience in an industrial lab environment.

  • 5+ years of protein characterization in a lab setting.

  • In-depth knowledge mass spectrometry techniques to analyze recombinant proteins and peptides.

  • Good Knowledge of protein chemistry.

  • A team player able to share knowledge with others and actively participate and lead scientific discussions with other members of the team and collaborators. Able to work independently and diligently to an established plan, prioritize and work to tight deadlines.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with good communication and attention to detail essential. A demonstrable analytical approach to problem-solving attitude is also an advantage.
