Lonza MSP UK
Laboratory Informatics Lead
Join our High-Throughput & Laboratory Automation CoE team in Slough to build a fully digital laboratory space by directly connecting cutting-edge scientific instruments and automation platforms to our laboratory data platform. This is a 5-day on-site role supporting critical R&D operations in a dynamic laboratory setting.
Fully site‑based roles
This is a fully site‑based role. Working together in person supports close, real‑time collaboration and the technical precision needed to manufacture medicines to the highest quality and safety standards.
What you will get:
An agile career and dynamic working culture.
An inclusive and ethical workplace.
Competitive hourly rate.
Compensation for this role will be determined by the candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and relevant knowledge.
What you will do:
Drive hands-on technical delivery to connect high-throughput lab instruments and automation platforms to target data systems.
Collaborate with scientists, automation engineers, IT/OT teams, and external vendors to establish reliable digital interfaces.
Assess priority lab equipment, map out data structures, and eliminate manual data entry steps across R&D labs.
Configure practical connections using REST APIs, SQL, SFTP, file transfers (CSV/XML/JSON), or middleware solution patterns.
Ensure automated capture of critical metadata including sample IDs, run IDs, method configurations, and timestamps.
Test integrations end-to-end, resolve interface exceptions, and troubleshoot network, hardware, and software issues.
Document technical specifications, reusable integration patterns, and data mapping protocols to support future scale-up.
What we are looking for:
Proven hands-on experience in laboratory instrument connectivity, automation integration, or lab informatics (LIMS, ELN, SDMS).
Strong technical background across hardware engineering, digital interfaces, networked instruments, and data architecture.
Demonstrated expertise in integration methods including REST APIs, SQL, SFTP, middleware, or lab standards (e.g., SiLA 2, OPC-UA).
Solid understanding of scientific data integrity principles (ALCOA+) and user access controls in a regulated laboratory environment.
Pragmatic communication skills with the ability to translate vendor interface specifications into practical technical setups.
Experience or familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell is beneficial.
