We are seeking an IT/OT Networking Solution Architect to ensure the seamless operation, performance, and availability of Lonza’s enterprise network infrastructure and data center environments. This hybrid role focuses primarily on network engineering (70%) while also overseeing data center operations (30%), enabling both daily operations and long‑term scalability.
Role Purpose / Summary
The IT/OT Networking Solution Architect is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and evolving LAN/WAN, Wi‑Fi, VPN, and network device ecosystems to deliver high availability for business‑critical systems. The role also ensures operational excellence in physical and virtual data center infrastructure, covering lifecycle management, compliance, and vendor coordination. This position requires a hands‑on technical professional with strong troubleshooting skills, capable of resolving complex network issues while contributing to strategic infrastructure growth initiatives.
Key Accountabilities
Network Engineering (Primary Focus – 70%)
- Monitor and respond to network alerts and service tickets to ensure uptime and performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across LAN, WAN, Wi‑Fi, VPN, and structured cabling.
- Configure and support network hardware including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points.
- Maintain accurate network documentation including diagrams, inventories, and change records.
- Participate in network performance tuning, capacity planning, and deployment of new services.
- Support network automation, monitoring improvements, and process standardization.
Data Center Operations (Secondary Focus – 30%)
- Ensure continuous availability of data center services supporting enterprise workloads.
- Oversee physical infrastructure including power, cooling, and space utilization.
- Coordinate maintenance and upgrades of IT hardware (servers, storage, network devices).
- Support compliance with organizational policies and industry standards for data protection, physical security, and audit readiness.
Key Requirements
Domain Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
- Strong foundational knowledge of IP networking (IP addressing, subnets, VLANs, DNS, DHCP).
- Hands‑on experience configuring network hardware and managing data center infrastructure (UPS, HVAC, cabling, fire suppression, access control).
- Familiarity with server hardware, storage platforms (NetApp, Dell EMC), and virtualization (VMware, Hyper‑V).
- Experience with monitoring and management tools (DCIM, environmental sensors, ITSM platforms such as ServiceNow).
Skills & Attributes
- Proven troubleshooting and technical analysis skills, including Layer 1–3 network issues.
- Effective communicator with strong customer service orientation.
- Skilled in collaborating with internal teams and vendors.
- Strong capacity planning, asset lifecycle management, and operational alignment with business needs.
- Ability to navigate complex, matrixed environments and deliver impactful results.
