The role:

The role of the Head of Protein Chemistry is to lead and manage a team within the field of analytical protein chemistry for protein therapeutics.

As part of Lonza’s internal R&D team, you will be responsible for identifying and bringing to the market new analytical methods and technologies to enhance the value of customer offerings. You will lead these technology development projects to successful and timely delivery, identify challenges and opportunities, and develop innovative and proprietary solutions to address these.

As a Subject Matter Expert, provide scientific leadership to R&D teams; expand Lonza's presence and research profile externally!

Key responsibilities:
  • Design and successfully deliver multiple innovative projects or programs.

  • Coordinate analytical requirements for BioR&D projects against available CoE resources to ensure scientific quality and timely achievement of delivery.

  • Ensure efficient performance and results by improving and streamlining the work environment and working conditions.

  • Provide motivation, support, and clarity of tasks to your team to continuously improve and develop.

  • Establish a culture of innovation, leading the process from brainstorming to ideation.

  • Maintain expertise as a Subject Matter Expert in analytical protein chemistry.

  • Identify and address IP threats and opportunities in active projects.

  • Present projects at conferences via talks or posters and initiate the preparation of manuscripts for publication or external presentation.

Key requirements:
  • Demonstrated abilities in leading and managing teams, including:

  • - Coaching and mentoring team members

  • - Empowering team members with the appropriate tools and support for success

  • - Translating team goals into individual responsibilities

  • Expertise in the characterisation of protein structure and variants

  • Experience in analytical method development for biopharmaceutical testing

  • Proficiency in relevant techniques: H/UPLC, CE, Mass spectrometry

  • Skilled in experimental design, including DoE
