Waste Management Technician (Part-Time)

We are looking for a Waste Management Technician to support environmental compliance and waste management activities at our Houston site. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe handling, characterization, storage, and shipment of waste generated within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. You will work closely with Environmental Health & Safety, Manufacturing, and Laboratory teams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements while supporting operational excellence and sustainability initiatives.

Workplace Policy: This is an on-site, part-time position based in Houston, Texas, working approximately 16 hours per week.

What you will do:

• Perform waste characterization and classification activities for hazardous, non-hazardous, and medical waste streams in accordance with regulatory requirements.

• Manage waste storage areas by ensuring proper segregation, labeling, packaging, and handling of materials.

• Coordinate waste shipments and prepare required documentation, including manifests, land disposal restriction forms, and bills of lading.

• Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act requirements for waste transportation and disposal.

• Conduct routine inspections of waste accumulation areas and identify opportunities to improve safety and compliance.

• Maintain accurate records related to waste generation, storage, and disposal activities.

• Collaborate with manufacturing and laboratory teams to promote proper waste handling practices and support continuous improvement initiatives.

What we are looking for:

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.

• Four or more years of experience in waste management, environmental compliance, or a regulated manufacturing environment.

• Knowledge of hazardous waste regulations, including Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Transportation, and applicable state requirements.

• DOT Hazardous Materials and RCRA training, or the ability to obtain required certifications within a designated timeframe.

• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to regulatory compliance.

• Ability to safely handle hazardous materials and wear required personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection when necessary.

• Effective communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across laboratory, manufacturing, and Environmental Health & Safety teams.
