Biotechnologist II – Upstream (2k Asset)

Location: Portsmouth, NH, USA.

Join our 2k Upstream team on the Night Shift (7 PM – 7 AM). In this role, you will be a key contributor to the cell culture process, growing and maintaining the living cells used to produce life-saving medicines through advanced bioreactor operations.

Schedule

  • Shift: Rotational Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)

  • Pattern: 2 days on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off (repeating cycle)

  • Orientation: Your first 2-week orientation and training period will be held on the day shift.

  • Differentials: Night and weekend shifts include additional pay.

What you will do

  • Upstream Operations: Set up and operate 2,000-liter bioreactors and support equipment, including seed-train vessels and benchtop systems.

  • Cell Culture Execution: Execute precise process recipes for inoculation, feeding, and harvest, ensuring optimal cell growth and health.

  • Sterility & Maintenance: Perform Clean-in-Place (CIP) and Steam-in-Place (SIP) operations for all upstream vessels and media lines to maintain a contamination-free environment.

  • Technical Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve routine equipment and process variances (e.g., pH or dissolved oxygen fluctuations), escalating complex issues as needed.

  • Mentorship: As a Level II professional, provide guidance and foundational training to early-career associates on the shift.

  • Quality & Compliance: Review batch records and logbooks in real-time, adhering to Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and ensuring all activities meet cGMP standards.

  • Material Management: Coordinate the preparation and transfer of media and supplements required for the production run.

What we are looking for

  • Experience Levels: While we are specifically seeking a Level II professional with 1–3 years of biotech experience, we will entertain all levels of experience. We encourage both foundational candidates and advanced professionals to apply.

  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent is required; an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field is preferred.

  • Technical Skillset: Familiarity with mammalian cell culture, aseptic technique, or bioreactor operations is a plus, but a strong mechanical aptitude and a desire to learn are essential.

  • Detail-Oriented: A commitment to following complex written instructions and maintaining meticulous records.

  • Schedule: Ability to work the 7 PM – 7 AM rotational night shift in a fast-paced, high-tech manufacturing environment.

  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills for coordinating with the Downstream team and participating in shift handovers.
