Biotechnologist I – Cell Therapy (Day Shift)
Location: Portsmouth, NH, USA.
Join a team where "making medicine" is a deeply personal mission. Our Cell Therapy asset in Portsmouth is a center of excellence where we work with human-derived primary cells (patient-contributed materials) to create customized, life-saving therapies. Because we are often a patient's last best hope, we are looking for dedicated individuals who take pride in precision, sterile discipline, and a job well done.
What You’ll Get
A Rare Professional Craft: You will be trained in "Aseptic Technique," a highly specialized skill set that is the gold standard of the biotech industry.
Direct Patient Connection: You aren't just a number in a factory; you are the hands that help process a specific treatment for a specific person.
Comprehensive Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and performance-based incentives.
Balanced Schedule: Our rotating 12-hour shift allows for predictable time off and long weekends. Our full list of global benefits can be found here: https://www.lonza.com/careers/benefits.
What You’ll Do
The Art of the Cleanroom: To protect our patients, we work in Grade B cleanrooms. You will become an expert in "sterile gowning," a process where you wear specialized head-to-toe protective gear. While this requires a high degree of discipline and can mean spending several hours at a time in a controlled, focused environment, our team takes great pride in the "zen-like" focus this atmosphere provides.
Handling Life-Saving Materials: You will work directly with human-derived biological materials (patient starting products). This is the heart of what we do. You will learn to handle these materials with the utmost care and respect, understanding that every vial represents a patient’s journey toward recovery.
Precision Hood Work: Cell therapy is an incredibly "hands-on" science. You will perform delicate, manual tasks inside laminar flow hoods (specialized sterile workstations). This is a great role for someone who enjoys detail-oriented work, has steady hands, and likes the satisfaction of a "manual-meets-high-tech" process.
Commitment to Quality: You will follow detailed recipes (SOPs) to ensure every batch is perfect. Your role is to ensure that nothing interferes with the patient's treatment.
Real-Time Documentation: You will document your work as you go, ensuring that the story of the medicine’s creation is as flawless as the medicine itself.
What We’re Looking For
Schedule: Ability to work a rotating day shift (7 AM – 7 PM). Our rotation pattern is: Work 2 days on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off. This ensures you have consistent time to recharge and includes every other weekend.
Eagerness to Learn: This is a foundational/early-career role. We don't require prior biotech experience; we look for a "can-do" attitude, reliability, and a passion for helping people.
Resilience & Focus: You should be comfortable with the physical nature of the role, which includes standing, wearing sterile gear, and maintaining focus during detailed manual tasks.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Team Spirit: Someone who communicates well and understands that in Cell Therapy, we all win together.
