As a Biotechnologist (Upstream) at Lonza Mammalian business, you’ll be part of our globally recognized network, driving the production of mammalian cell culture and treatments. You will support upstream operations including cell culture handling, bioreactor operations, and process control, while ensuring adherence to cGMP standards.

What you’ll do
  • Support upstream GMP manufacturing operations including subculture stages (culture flasks, spinners, wave bioreactors, etc.).
  • Apply aseptic techniques and ensure microbial control throughout upstream operations.
  • Operate bioreactors at small and large scale, including pH/DO, CO₂/O₂ control, cell performance monitoring, and metabolite analysis.
  • Handle single-use applications for upstream processes.
  • Support cleaning and sterilization cycles, ensuring equipment readiness and compliance with microbial control standards.
  • Maintain facility and lab standards in a cleanroom environment, including 6S housekeeping.
  • Complete required process documentation including SOPs, logbooks, and batch records.
  • Perform duties in a rotating 12-hour shift pattern.
What we’re looking for
  • Degree in a related Science/Engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge of biopharmaceutical processing is an added asset.
  • Awareness of cGMP applications preferred (training will be provided).
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude with willingness to learn.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable working in a cleanroom environment and on a rotating 12-hour shift pattern.
