Automation Engineer

Location: Vacaville, California 
This is a fully site based role. Working together in person supports close, real time collaboration and the technical precision needed to manufacture medicines to the highest quality and safety standards.

Automation Engineer will provide automation support for site automation projects in alignment with the CCP1 and CCP2 Automation Roadmap to enable reliable quality supply to patients and world class excellence in operations. Support MAR (Make Assess Release) activities and assist on capital projects including Tech transfer when required. Provide automation support to Vacaville Manufacturing Operations as part of the Process Automation group, focused on the CCP1 and CCP2 Automation Systems, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Vendor Supplied Controller (VSC) system to ensure they remain in a qualified state..

What you will do

• Design, support, and optimize MCS, DCS, PLC, and Vendor-Supplied Control (VSC) automation systems.
• Lead automation activities for capital projects, system upgrades, commissioning, validation, and change controls.
• Partner with Manufacturing, Engineering, Process Science, Validation, and QA teams to deliver right-first-time automation solutions.
• Perform automation programming, coding, testing, debugging, startup, and peer review activities.
• Troubleshoot and resolve process control, software, and manufacturing automation issues, including on-call support as needed.
• Develop, review, and execute automation requirements, control system designs, technical documentation, and software changes.
• Support GMP manufacturing operations through investigations, discrepancy resolution, root cause analysis, and corrective actions (CAPAs).

What we are looking for

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field preferred.
• Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration across Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Validation, and leadership teams to drive project success.
• Analyze complex automation and process control issues by gathering relevant information, identifying key relationships, and determining root causes.
• Evaluate automation engineering challenges and develop practical, data-driven solutions that improve system reliability and operational performance.
• Adapt quickly to changing business, project, and manufacturing requirements while maintaining focus on critical objectives.
• Prioritize multiple projects, support activities, and deliverables in a fast-paced GMP manufacturing environment.
• Exercise sound technical judgment to support troubleshooting, investigations, change controls, and continuous improvement initiatives.
