As a Controls Engineer based on site in Portsmouth, NH, you will combine your technical automation expertise with hands-on problem solving to support high-tech manufacturing suites, lead system improvements, and keep vital operations running smoothly.

This role is primarily based on site. Working together in person supports close, real‑time collaboration and the technical precision needed to manufacture medicines to the highest quality and safety standards. We offer flexibility to work remotely for no more than 20% of your time. Requests are considered on a case‑by‑case basis, in line with business needs.

What you will get:

  • An agile career and dynamic working culture.

  • An inclusive and ethical workplace.

  • Competitive hourly rate / compensation package.

What you will do:

  • Drive the performance and reliability of manufacturing equipment and process automation systems to ensure seamless production of biopharmaceuticals.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Integrated Process Teams (IPT/JPT) and quality operations, as the primary Controls representative.

  • Support day-to-day operations by conducting real-time troubleshooting, code reviews, and PI data analyses during business hours and through an on-call rotation.

  • Lead and execute process improvements, technology transfers, and system upgrades on manufacturing automation equipment.

  • Initiate and manage end-to-end change controls, completing change request lot assessments to directly support batch release.

  • Author and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Functional Specifications, and technical work instructions.

  • Ensure all engineering and technical work complies strictly with safety protocols, GxP regulations, and required training standards.

What we are looking for:

  • Proven experience in controls engineering, manufacturing automation, or process engineering within a GxP/regulated environment.

  • Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting process automation systems, reading/interpreting code, and analyzing plant data using OSIsoft PI Data Historian.

  • Strong knowledge of change control management processes, quality risk assessments, and batch release support procedures.

  • Solid understanding of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Functional Specifications in automated manufacturing.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Automation, Chemical, Systems) or equivalent practical technical experience.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to represent automation engineering effectively across joint cross-functional teams.

  • Willingness and capability to participate in an on-call escalation rotation to support site production suites.
